Be A Toonut

From Toonut, their site "provides free cartoon hosting for artists, and all members can vote and comment." Toonut is not a big site and is still sort of new (since August 2007), and small. But hopefully, it'll continue to grow. I think this site has a good potential if more people joined it. It'll be nice to see more people posting their cartoons, considering that it's a free hosting.

Thank you, Kristen, for the link.

Thou Shall See A Ball In The Sky

I really don't know how to describe this site. This is one weird page. It has strange and ancient illustrations and paintings of "UFOs". The way I see them, they are satirical, strange and funny. I think the strangest thing is that these are mostly "religious" paintings. I'm not sure what to make of it. I've seen fake images of UFOs before, but these paintings are totally new to me. In the image above, the UFOs look like parachutes to me. They also look like musical notes floating around in mid air on the way somewhere else.. Somehow they also remind me of Mary Poppins and her umbrella on the way to London.

Disabled Creatures

I don't know how I missed this site before. Video clips with captions and sign language 'terps, are not something that I usually see on the internet. It's quite a rare gem to see.

It would have been nice, if more people whow are in the media and entertainment businesses, were aware of the difficulties that deaf people have with the various visual media (tv, theaters, videos..)

There is so much to do to make the world better for those who face challenges everyday. We need better accommodations everywhere.

About these ads, you'll notice that the characters differ vastly from the animated animal characters that you'd normally see in cartoons. They are all disabled (and sweet), who are in wheelchairs and crutches.

To be clear, this site isn't about deaf people. The site's purpose is to educate and to bring awareness about the various types of disabilities. This site is from the UK, which is probably why I don't recognize these ads. I don't think we've had them here in the US. It would've been great to have these ads here too.

I'd like to note that the radio ads don't have captions, however there are scripts for them that can view.

Native Americans Hairstyles Of The Past

It would have been really cool if there were more pictures here. Oh well, I suppose you'd have to search for a bunch of different sites (So far, I have not been able to find a site that shows all of the Native American hairstyles) It would be nice to see more styles.

The Native Americans back in the 1800's had different hairstyles than today (braids and the long flowing hair are still popular). Some of the women's hairstyles are just amazing. I wonder how long it took to braid some of these styles. I was especially impressed with the Hopi Maiden's "squashblossom whorls" (image above). The explanation for this particular style is interesting. Only unmarried young women could wear it. The man's image is of a Crow chief with "braids and pompadour".

Car Scenes - blog

Car Scenes is an interesting blog about cars that appear in movies' scenes. I think some of the greatest scenes in the movies were in cars. I never thought if this before. Some of Hitchcock films have memorable car chase scenes (Cary Grant). How about those famous James Bond's cars? Don't forget those 1970's wacky car races movies. There are also Christine, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Gnomemobile. Coming to think of it, there are quite many famous car movie scenes. Then there are a lot of them. We have them on tv too. Space Racer for example. Batmobile, KITT, Starsky and Hutch's Gran Torinos, General Lee and the Mystery Machine and more. Oh yeah, cartoon cars too. I would really love to see a list of all tv and movies'cars. I keep remembering more and more.

Send Me A Lobby Card

So what are lobby cards? A quick summary from the Definition page:

The Lobby cards were made for the theaters for display in the lobbies since their "inception in the early 'teens". However, many American studios stopped making them in 1985, but they continued distributing American lobby cards to other countries. Now some of these lobbies are in the US again because of their popularity with the collectors.
